About William

William Sherer grew up right here in Canton and attended Canton City Schools. He was brought up in a working family and learned the importance of hard work and community at a young age. After meeting his wife Carrie, they decided to raise their three daughters here in Canton.

Sherer has always been proud to serve his community. He has had the honor of being elected President of the Canton City Council, where he dedicated his work to fighting for working families. Sherer served as the Business Manager of Ironworkers Local 550, Vice Chairman of the Stark Democratic Party, and President of the Ohio Ironworkers.

Sherer is determined to continue showing up for Canton as Mayor. He believes in expanding community safety, protecting workers’ rights and wages, creating high-quality jobs, and helping every child to graduate with more access to apprenticeships and vocational training.

He will work to ensure our safety forces have the resources they need to keep us safe, expand wi-fiber technology, and grow our crisis response team to assist with mental health issues in our community.
